Per January 25th 2011 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) admitted the OLB (Origine et Légalité des Bois) System of Bureau Veritas Certification to its Keurhout-Legal system. Bureau Veritas Certification is a France based and internationally well known Certification Body in the field of forestry, among others. It applies a phased approach to forest certification. The forest certification program comprises a series of verification services for legality compliance and forest management: verification of Legal Origin and Legal Compliance (OLB) and Certification of Sustainable Forest Management (FSC or PEFC).

Background
Per January 25th 2011 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) has admitted the OLB system of BVC to its Keurhout-Legal System.

The OLB (Origine et Légalité des Bois) standard concerns the legality certification system of BVC (Bureau Veritas Certification), France. The system was developed in 2004 by Eurocertifor,  which has been taken over by BVC, which further developed the OLB system. It has been applied so far in several Central- and West-African countries and Asia. The system is designed to verify that timber has been legally produced (including all operations), acquired and sold by a particular forestry or timber company. The legality-certified timber is traced by certification body BVC throughout the supply chain, based on a traditional paper-based CoC and annual field checks.

Background
Per September 30th 2010 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) has admitted the Certisource-Indonesia Legal Timber system of Certisource to its Keurhout-Legal System.

Since January 25th 2010 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) has admitted the VLO and VLC Systems of SmartWood/Rainforest Alliance (SW/RA) to its Keurhout-Legal system. The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit conservation organisation that offers its clients in the field of forestry the SmartWood program.

Background

In the summer 2008 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) had admitted the Timber Legality & Traceability Verification (TLTV) System of SGS to its Keurhout-Legal System. The TLTV Programme was the first legality system ever to be admitted to the Keurhout-Legal System.

Since January 25th 2010 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) has admitted the VLO and VLC Systems of SmartWood/Rainforest Alliance (SW/RA) to its Keurhout-Legal system. The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit conservation organisation that offers its clients in the field of forestry the SmartWood program. SW/RA is a well known Certification Body in the field of forestry. It applies a phased approach to certification. It is accredited by FSC for certification of sustainable forest management (SFM), Chain-of-Custody (CoC) and controlled wood (CW).

The Keurhout Management Authority (KH-MA) has decided to honour a request of  certification body (CB) “Control Union Certifications” (earlier SKAL) to be admitted to the pool of KH-registered CB’s. The admission is effective from July 15th 2009 and concerns the implementation of intake and annual surveillance audits concerning the CoC in consumer countries. CU is the third admitted CB, next to SGS and SKH.

Recently, after more than 13 years in that position,  Prof. C. J. Jepma left as President of the Board of Experts (BoE) of Keurhout. The reason is that he could not combine this function with his new position as President of the Energy Delta Institute, a cooperation between the GasUnie and the Rijks Universiteit Groningen (RUG).
In his farewell speech Prof. Jepma indicated to be impressed by the quality of work delivered by the BoE. He stressed that the BoE has contributed positively to the development of the Keurhout system, which counts those days with a complete Protocol with standards for the validation of certificates and systems for Legal Origin and Sustainable Forest Management.

May 6th 2009

With support of the General Assemblee held on April 1st 2009, the board of directors of the NTTA has decided to adjust the Keurhout system by establishing a provision which arranges the integral admission of certificates issued under FSC or PEFC International to the Keurhout-Sustainable sytem. Objections against this decision can be filed within 1 month at the Keurhout Management Authority.

With effect from March 10 th 2009 the Keurhout Board of Experts (BoE) has admitted the MTCS, the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme, to its Keurhout-Legal system. MTCS is the national timber certification scheme of Malaysia operated by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC), The MTCC was established in 1999 and the MTCS became operational in 2001, but has since then undergone significant improvements over the last few years.
